Peripheral Nerve Surgery
Peripheral nerve surgery involves the decompression, repair, or reconstruction of damaged nerves in the lower extremity. Dr. Balkaran completed an advanced microsurgical fellowship through the American Microsurgery and Orthoplastic Society (FAMOS), providing training in a subspecialty that most podiatric practices are not equipped to diagnose or treat.

Complex nerve conditions require a team. We work with physiatrists, neurosurgeons, and advanced nerve testing specialists to deliver comprehensive care. Advanced nerve testing, imaging review, and vascular assessment inform the treatment plan before any surgical intervention is considered.
Conditions We Treat
- Foot drop from peroneal nerve compression
- Peripheral neuropathy and chronic nerve pain
- Neuromas, including Morton's neuroma
- Tarsal tunnel syndrome and nerve entrapment
- Paresthesias, burning, and numbness
- Post-traumatic nerve injuries
- Nerve injuries following prior surgery
Who Is a Candidate?
If you have been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, chronic lower extremity pain, or a specific nerve compression that has not responded to conservative care, a comprehensive nerve evaluation may reveal a treatable condition. Not every case requires surgery. Many nerve entrapments respond to targeted nerve blocks or regenerative therapies. Surgery is considered when conservative care has been exhausted and structural compression is confirmed.
